The current packaging process for glibc causes the /usr/share/locale/locale.alias file to get picked up by the automated locale package generation code in package.bblcass. This results in a package called: glibc-locale-locale.alias, which is not a valid package that can be installed in an image (presumably because it contains a "." ?) I think it would be ideal if the alias file could be installed by specifying it in the IMAGE_LINGUAS variable (e.g. IMAGE_LINGUAS = "alias") A Documentation change is probably not strictly necessary, but it might be nice to document how to get the locale.alias file on an image.
This can be packaged into /etc I think it can be
IIRC it can be in /etc, but glibc installs it in /usr/share/locale. Would we try to change the location of the file from where glibc places it? Also, I do have a patch to fix this, I just haven't had time to send it to the mailing list yet.

It turns out that even with my patch, the locale.alias file seems to be ignored (regardless of if it is in /usr/share/locale or /etc). None of the aliased locales show up when I run the locale program, so I want to look into why that is happening.
