If you have a bad path in your bblayers file, the memres startup gets into an error loop. This loop is silent from the terminal point of view until you ctrl-c the process and look at the bitbake-cookerdaemon.log.

A snippet from the bitbake-cookerdaemon.log, this repeats for at least a minute or two...
