I don't see this as a BSP question, but more general. So I'm tagging this as oe-core.

According to your description, it is somehow set at runtime but I see no way to do the latter. > 2. 99% sure this used to work with gst-player showing a dialog if the pipeline throws a "missing codec" message. Maxin, can you check and chase why this isn't working?

Maxin, can you check and chase why this > isn't working? play in the terminal (gst-play-1.0 / home / root / audio \ and \ video / AUDIO / MP3 / MP3.mp3) if the warning is present, only the graphic media player is not the warning message attached evidence

In commit:afb2ba67fea2f6e545676ad4f3ade0abc7d84e63 http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=afb2ba67fea2f6e545676ad4f3ade0abc7d84e63 I removed "Add-error-signal-emission-for-missing-plugins.patch" from gst-player after finding the patch status as "committed and closed" in github. It was a mistake. A new bug opened to keep track of this in the new "gst-examples" repository: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=765934 This patch in it's current state needs some updates as per review comments and also other updates to reflect changes in the new repository here: git://anongit.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-examples
Moving gstreamer bugs to Anuj.
This isn't a BSP thing, but simply a bug in gst-examples dropping the warning message.
I had actually taken a look at it. The patch that we used to carry applies on a code that has now been split across gst-plugins-bad and gst-examples. So it needs some work. I had a patch that simply outputs an error when a codec is missing but that isn't generic enough.
Anuj: Might your patch be better than nothing? Is it something you could have a quick look at as it might be an improvement on what we have today...
Bulk move from 4.99 or 0.00 to 5.99
We need to check if our current media player (gtk-play?) reports on missing codecs. It should not fail silently.
I confirm we still have the same issue with gtk-play example from gstreamer. I will try to come with some solution.
