If you try to ls a fat partition using wic on Ubuntu 16.04 with host mtools installed you get the following error:

ERROR: _exec_cmd: /usr/bin/mdir -i /tmp/wic-part7q2ppk8i ::/ returned '1' instead of 0
output: Total number of sectors (47824) not a multiple of sectors per track (32)!
Add mtools_skip_check=1 to your .mtoolsrc file to skip this test

if you create a ~/.mtoolsrc with 
mtools_skip_check=1 
in it; then the command proceeds fine. 

I will put a depends on Bug 12173 since this may go away when we use mtools-native correctly instead of host mtools. or it may not.

using our own mtools-native may allow us to make this bug obsolete...

Turns out that wic ls has an optional argument to pass in the native sysroot containing mtools-native

wic ls -n (pwd)/tmp/sysroots-components/x86_64/mtools-native   /tmp/core-image-base-qemux86-64.wic:1  

^^^
The above works fine without the ~/.mtoolsrc file.

We only support using our own mtools.
