Description Henry Bruce 2017-11-14 21:02:52 UTC
Steps to re-create
===================
* Get rocko release of poky and meta-intel
* In local.conf add the following
  MACHINE = "intel-corei7-64"
  IMAGE_FSTYPES += "iso"
* Build core-image-minimal
* dd ISO image to USB stick
* Boot an x86-64 device in legacy mode, selecting USB stick as boot device
* Select install option in bootloader
* See installer fall through to login prompt without installing image

Expected behavior
=================
Installer installs image to HDD, never gets to login prompt

Workarounds
===========
Either
1. Boot in EFI mode
Or
2. Use pyro (bug was introduced in rocko release)
Comment 1 California Sullivan 2017-11-14 21:18:16 UTC
Meta-intel adopted initramfs-framework before OE-core, and unfortunately there is currently no non-EFI initramfs-framework module for installation, which caused this breakage.

Its a fairly simple fix, but could take some time to get into OE-core, then backported to rocko due to the currently backlog.

OE-core counterpart sent to the list:

I have backported

518d8a4 initramfs-framework: add install module
d93b197 initramfs-module-install-efi: update summary
104e3af initramfs-module-install-efi: point to original copy and delete new file

to stable/rocko-next since this landed in master. I hear there is one additional patch needed that is not yet in master.

The last necessary OE-core patch was merged into master: https://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=09b8b36b30cc5a359fc316169a037a03512cd5af
