Description Cornel Panceac 2018-01-09 13:08:56 UTC
Centos setup say you need to install python3-pip which does not exist in centos or epel repos.
What does exist is python34-pip. Please fix.
Comment 1 Cornel Panceac 2018-01-09 13:10:03 UTC
worth mentioning i'm talking about centos 7.
Comment 2 Scott Rifenbark 2018-01-09 18:31:20 UTC
Is this only for CentOS 7? What about earlier versions of the distro?

Cornel, I own this bug now and I can't move on it until we have feedback from Scott's Comment 2. Thanks!

Comment 4 Cornel Panceac 2018-01-10 07:15:51 UTC
Right now i can not test on Centos 6, sorry.
Comment 5 Cornel Panceac 2018-01-10 07:20:47 UTC
Looking here:
http://fedora.mirrors.telekom.ro/pub/epel/6/x86_64/Packages/p/

I see that python-pip does exist, while python34-pip does not. So maybe the instructions are fine for Centos 6 but again, i can not test right now .
Comment 6 Paul Eggleton 2018-01-10 20:17:38 UTC
Do we officially support CentOS versions older than 7?
Comment 7 Scott Rifenbark 2018-01-10 21:21:22 UTC
I do not know if we officially support CentOS prior to 7. However, we have a note implying we do here - http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.5/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#centos-packages.

Comment 8 Paul Eggleton 2018-01-10 22:55:31 UTC
I just checked with Richard, and it seems I was right - we don't officially support CentOS 6 anymore. For 2.5 we should remove the CentOS 6 reference (and the containing note box with it) from the QS guide.
Comment 9 Scott Rifenbark 2018-01-10 23:20:20 UTC
Paul - thanks. That simplifies things.
Comment 10 Kristi 2018-01-11 00:41:46 UTC
Thanks everyone! I've updated both the ref-manual (http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.5/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#centos-packages) and the quick start (http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.5/yocto-project-qs/yocto-project-qs.html#packages) to replace python3-pip with python34-pip. Let me know if this looks good or if additional changes are required.

This looks good. Can we also fix it for the current version of these documents?

Thanks Cornel,

We looked back and fixed all development branches for any yocto release that did not support 6.x. The "current" quick start and ref-manual should now reflect this as well. Because you have reviewed the change already, I am setting this as RESOLVED.
