The layer index provides a REST API to allow applications and scripts (such as Toaster) to retrieve information from the index. I added some functionality to the API recently and unintentionally changed part of it in a way that broke Toaster by sending it information in a form it could no longer interpret. To avoid this happening in future we should write some tests for the layer index API that verify it is sending back json containing the expected fields.

Here's the API on OE's live instance:

We'd be testing the json output rather than the web version, e.g. for branches:

http://layers.openembedded.org/layerindex/api/branches/?format=json

Still valid. Perhaps with some help from genAI this can get going. Moving to 6.99.
