Hi, Binutils 2.29 had changed the behavior of the adr macro which makes the linux kernel crash when compiled in Thumb mode for ARM. It also impacts the proper behavior of OpenSSL and other tools. The behavior has been partially reverted by putting it behind an extra -mthumb-interwork command line option in binutils 2.31. See also the binutils 2.31 release notes: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/info-gnu/2018-07/msg00005.html IMHO binutils 2.29 must be considered broken. Please migrate to binutils 2.31 ASAP. Maarten
If this issue is against a stable branch, we do not update the packages like the toolchain so we will not update to the latest binutils. Can you provide a way of reproducing this issue?
upstream fix: https://sourceware.org/git/gitweb.cgi?p=binutils-gdb.git;a=commitdiff;h=fc6141f097056f830a412afebed8d81a9d72b696;hp=c6643fcc058d6b4aebca75818fbbb705837a9fa3 maybe this is all we need?
Yes, that is the fix I was referring to. Can it be applied only to sumo or to rocko as well? To reproduce you must build the kernel for ARM in Thumb mode. And then run it on an ARM of course. Thanks for looking into this. Maarten
back ported change to sumo.
