Description Henrik Riomar 2019-03-01 11:59:42 UTC
gitsm included with poky Thud 20.0.1 fails when a bb file is using gitsm to fetch the source git-repo, and the git-repo contains submodules within submodules.

Example submodule that can be used for reproducing it:
 https://github.com/google/fonts
(put that as a submodule in the git-repo cloned with gitsm.)

Error seen:

submodule update --recursive --no-fetch failed with exit code 1, output:
....
Submodule path 'external/google-fonts': checked out '6177da92bf853e779b0e46ec9f0dd301b2726641'
....

warning: core.bare and core.worktree do not make sense
fatal: unable to set up work tree using invalid config
Unable to checkout '96620a77aabf605d7c0d89786f4e1f31567bbd78' in submodule path 'external/google-fonts/tools/util/GlyphsInfo'
Failed to recurse into submodule path 'external/google-fonts'

Worked fine in Morty.
Comment 2 Richard Purdie 2019-03-02 22:52:12 UTC
Could you check if master works please? This is likely a case of us needing to backport a lot of the fixes in master. We're a little reluctant due to the shear number of patches needing backport but knowing master works for you may help influence what we do.
Comment 3 Henrik Riomar 2019-03-04 12:01:42 UTC
yes do_fetch with gitsm works fine if add bitbake patches (79 missing patches in the Thud branch) from poky master.
Comment 4 Armin Kuster 2019-03-04 16:17:46 UTC
can I get a simple test case?
Comment 5 Henrik Riomar 2019-03-04 19:09:22 UTC
