There are nothing that really talks about how to utilize an external toolchain with poky

Will try to get this in for 1.1.  Need to go through the email threads that lead up to this bug and figure out the doc solution.

In the Poky Ref Manual FAQ appendix we have the following:

"H.23.  How do I use an external toolchain?

The toolchain configuration is very flexible and customizable.  It is primarily controlled with the TCMODE variable.  This variable controls which file to include (conf/distro/include/tcmod-*.inc).

The default value of TCMODE is "default".  However, other patterns are accepted.  In particular, "external-*" refers to external toolchains of which there are some basic examples included with the core.  A user can use their own custom toolchain definition in their own layer (or local.conf directory) at the location conf/distro/include/tcmode-*.inc.

In addition to the toolchain configuration, you also need a correspoinding toolchain recipe file.  This recipe file needs to package up any pre-built objects in the toolchain such as libgcc, libstdcc++, any locales and libc.  An example is the external-csl-toolchain_2008q3-72.bb, which reuses the core libc packaging class to do most of the work."

I also have a newly re-written section in the section that talks about application development using the Yocto Project.  The first sub-section titled "External Development Using the Meta-Toolchain" talks in general about using toolchains.  Currently, there is no mention of TCMODE in this section.  I can add information about the TCMODE variable to this section and also reference the FAQ entry.

A final point I can add is a glossary entry for the TCMODE variable to the glossary appendix, which currently has no entry for TCMODE.

Will these changes be acceptable for resolving this bug?

I am trying to use the external toolchain external-csl2008q3 (setting toolchain  TCMODE = "external-csl2008q3" in /meta-yocto/conf/distro/poky.conf) on qemuarm. When building with "bitbake core-image-minimal" on machine "qemuarm" I get dependency loops.
