Description Anuj Mittal 2019-08-01 02:01:34 UTC
Could we build and boot test linux-yocto-rt kernel as part of a buildset on autobuilder too if we aren't doing that already?

The linux-yocto-rt 4.19 kernel version on warrior is currently broken and since it isn't tested, it wasn't detected while releasing 2.7.1.

Sorry, actually I am not sure if it was broken at the time of release. It looks like the timelines overlap.

Bruce which rt kernels do we support on which hardware?

Correct. There was a brief window where it was broken, but I had corrected it pretty quickly (before sending SRCREVs).

All of the 64 bit architectures are supported with -rt. There's no specific h/w support in core, it is tested on the qemu machines only.

h/w enablement isn't something we do in core, since the specifics of the peripherals, interrupt controllers, etc, is too much overhead to carry.

Obviously only the kernels with an upstream -rt are supported, which is currently 4.19 and 5.0 in master. Which will become 4.19 and 5.2 once the new version updates are in master.

As of the 5.3 kernel more of -rt is in the mainline kernel, so it will be a configuration build and boot, versus a patched branch, but anything we setup for this will hold once things are mainline.

Would a poky-rt.conf help here so that we could add this to the AB like poky-tiny.conf is?

add new config to x86_64 and arm64 qemu steps.

In light of recent RT breakage that got slipped through testing into Dunfell LTS:

Patches on the list to do a build with a -rt kernel in qa-extras2, and check that the kernel is actually -rt in testimage.
