Summary says it all really. Trying to boot qemuppc with the linux-yocto-rt_3.0 kernel never reaches init. It runs to serial init and hangs for a while, then continues and spews "hda: lost interrupt" messages for a while, then goes silent. It never reaches init.
We'll work to have one ppc target as a reference for -rt, but it may have to be the fsl_mpc hardware target. Our interrupt changes for qemuppc are clearly at play here as they are bolted onto the generic IRQ changes and look to be missing the right handlers for -rt support.
Hi, bruce I ever provided a patch to fix interrupt bug of qemuppc, I saw that you haven't merged it into qemuppc branch. I use that patch to test, qemuppc can boot successfully: #uname -a Linux qemuppc 3.0.1-rt8-yocto-preempt-rt+ #2 PREEMPT RT Wed Aug 24 14:08:13 CST 2011 ppc GNU/Linux The mail is here: > for qemuppc issue, please use attached patch. > The root cause is that irq_state_clr_disabled is to enable irq, not > disable irq. So > We should modify function "irq_state_set_disabled". > > With this patch, qemuppc has booted up successfully. Ah yes! Patch fuzz'ing at its best. I haven't had a chance to debug this *at all*, so I'm glad you got to it before I did! :) I'll add your Sign-off to the patches. Cheers, Bruce
Hi bruce, Another issue, when I build linux-yocto-rt for qemuppc, then $git log origin/yocto/standard/base I can't find the following commit: commit 4aa5ca50274dc527d473cdf512196018811054cf Author: Jason Wessel <jason.wessel@windriver.com> Date: Wed Jan 7 00:59:33 2009 -0500 NFS: allow nfs root mount to use alternate rpc ports Allow an nfs root mount to use alternate RPC ports for mountd and nfsd. Signed-off-by: Jason Wessel <jason.wessel@windriver.com> [forward port to 2.6.33+] Signed-off-by: Bruce Ashfield <bruce.ashfield@windriver.com> If I build a linux-yocto, I can find that commit. What's the difference for that two git trees? Why some commits don't exist in the linux-yocto-rt tree? Without that commit, unfs can't boot successfully on qemu.
Liming: that interrupt patch is definitely merged. I now know what the problem is. We are incorrectly mapping and building the wrong branch for qemuppc-rt, I'll make an update an all those changes should be visible.
I've fixed the tree to have all the yocto/standard/base patches restored (it wasn't the problem here, but they were missing temporarily due to the 3.0.3 merge) and I've created a yocto/standard/preempt-rt/qemu-ppc32 branch that has all the relevant qemu changes for preempt-rt. This will go out for merge shortly.
Bruce, have you tested qemuppc boot for linux-yocto-rt_3.0?
see Liming's update .. he did. I confirmed that this builds and has all the right changes.
