FWIW, this is a fiendishly difficult issue. The race happens on the AB every once in a blue moon, upstream, RP and O had all taken a look at the failing build tree and the code, and we still couldn't see how it could happen.

It's a bit more involved than that. pod2text is supposed to be built in do_compile, and most of the time it is. But not all of the time. We've discussed this with upstream: https://github.com/arsv/perl-cross/issues/75
