I blew away my tmp/ directory and rebuilt core-image-sato using hob.

Then did "runqemu qemux86" and it didn't find anything to run. 

runqemu script should be changed to pick up on these hob-variant names without needing to dig through the directory and find the names.

We discussed this a bit in the hallway. One idea was to come up with some generic modifier match that we could include in the runqemu script that isn't yocto/hob specific and would allow for people to create modified image names that the script could find.
