The Raspberry Pi is a ubiquitous ARM device. It would be helpful to provide a demo guide which details the layers, recipes and tweaks required to build a Yocto image for a Raspberry Pi device. Let's target the Raspberry Pi 3B+ I would happy to collaborate on a guide.
We should assemble a tutorial around the https://git.yoctoproject.org/meta-raspberrypi hardware specific BSP overlay for the RaspberryPi device. - Survey existing tutorials / blogs / threads available on the Internet that describe how to build Yocto on the Raspberry Pi. - Collaborate with the authors to refresh and merge these resources into a Yocto Project documentation guide. - Co-create the various tutorial guide - Engage the broader Yocto / Raspberry Pi community to improve the doc and the meta-raspberrypi overlay.
Let's read this for accuracy: https://meta-raspberrypi.readthedocs.io/en/latest/readme.html
I like the idea but Raspberry Pi are not project members and this isn't official reference hardware. A guide would be nice, we just need to be careful on where it is hosted and how it is presented.
I found a tutorial about how to build a minimal Yocto image for a Raspberry Pi that I thought helpful. We might incorporate steps from Anurag Hazra's excellent guide. https://www.codeinsideout.com/blog/yocto/raspberry-pi/
Adding myself to the cc since at State of open, one of the booth visitors was interested in Yocto Linux and said he was going to go home and build it for his pi something .... And then the light came on, we need this to be easy for people.
Would we not be better off to cross-reference existing documentation like https://meta-raspberrypi.readthedocs.io/en/latest/readme.html#quick-start, then we do not duplicate and avoid further down upcoming inconstancies. We have already https://docs.yoctoproject.org/brief-yoctoprojectqs/index.html#customizing-your-build-for-specific-hardware where it is described how to add further layers for specific hardware. Maybe add further info there?
A good idea but Raspberry Pi BSP is out of scope for YP.
