Description Nick Owens 2023-07-22 04:53:31 UTC
elfutils is currently marked as

    LICENSE = "GPL-2.0-only & GPL-2.0-or-later & LGPL-3.0-or-later & GPL-3.0-or-later"

which i believe to be incorrect.

upstream https://sourceware.org/elfutils/ says:

    License. The libraries and backends are dual GPLv2+/LGPLv3+. The utilities are GPLv3+.

which i believe can be interpreted as giving the user a choice of license, and the source code (e.g. https://sourceware.org/git/?p=elfutils.git;a=blob;f=libelf/common.h;h=9b2a856d118a55c0977bbc8d9978d8f6b42f18b3;hb=HEAD#l6) says the same.

gentoo also agrees with me, and their ebuild uses `||` which implies user choice of license: https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/tree/dev-libs/elfutils/elfutils-0.189-r3.ebuild?id=0c64ab06a4ba2c73f3840be7aa49e34f42c13696#n14

    LICENSE="|| ( GPL-2+ LGPL-3+ ) utils? ( GPL-3+ )"

i would like to see the yocto metadata updated to match the upstream license.
