The upstream has switched to meson and maybe that will help with the reproducibility problem. Re-assigning to Ross who volunteered to help. Ross, Richard says this is likely a release blocker. The diffoscope behaviour is pretty bad (hours!) and should be improved. Joshua may look at that.
Hopefully RP fixed this once and for all in c4d1dc5e33734b94835e7f5e0e1746d4a6542b55.
