Currently our qemu images blank the screen after 10 minutes which is the X default. See https://www.x.org/archive/X11R6.8.0/doc/xorg.conf.5.html BlankTime StandbyTime SuspendTime OffTime. Some xorg.conf files enale DPMS but don't disable the screen blanking: https://git.yoctoproject.org/poky/tree/meta/recipes-graphics/xorg-xserver/xserver-xf86-config/qemuarm/xorg.conf We should consider disabling screen blanking and poweroff. "xset q" in an image shows the current config (which is 600s for everything despite what the man page says).
