We need to document how multiple different library versions of a library can be built and installed in parallel on a system. It works but needs documenting. Clutter is a good example of a recipe which does this.
I will look at the recipe.
I will research the Clutter recipe to get some understanding. I'll also tap into whoever i can in the team to supplement my information. At first glance, I think maybe the existing 3.7 section in the YP Reference Manual ("Combining multiple Versions of Library Files into One Image") might be re-cast at a higher level to be something to do with libraries in general. Then, that higher-level section can be split into a "multilib" section and a section to handle this bug. I would like to be able to actually duplicate the stuff that the Clutter recipe is doing but maybe with versions of a different library that makes sense.
I have created a new section in the dev-manual titled "Installing Multiple Versions of the Same Library" (http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.4/dev-manual/dev-manual.html#installing-multiple-versions-of-the-same-library). This section describes the process, which Paul Eggleton helped me create. As part of the fix, I also collected the now 3 separate sections that deal with library issues and gathered them in a parent section for better organization. The parent section is "Working With Libraries" at http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.4/dev-manual/dev-manual.html#platdev-working-with-libraries. Send feedback if there are problems or changes. Scott
Scott - Looks good to me, I think we can call this one done.
Received chat message from Richard Purdie indicating the solution is good. Marking the bug RESOLVED. Scott
