This will be a small part of updating to rpm 6 (to be released in ~Q3 2025) but I noticed the following warning in a qemuppc64 core-image-minimal build: log.do_package_write_rpm ... warning: Deprecated external dependency generator is used! ...repeats many times... ... I found that the following issue tracks the removal of the feature for rpm-6: https://github.com/rpm-software-management/rpm/issues/2373 and the setting has been in poky for > 10 years: https://git.yoctoproject.org/poky/commit/?id=84f7f70308eed0ac96abeb5a762e9b7765e5db91 I'm mostly creating this enhancement so that I can add a link to it in a comment on rpm's github.
FYI: https://rpm.org/roadmap.html
rpm6 is in alpha as of May 20, 2025: https://rpm.org/download.html
We're still using rpm 4 and we're still using this option: oe-core.git on master ❯ rg use_internal_dependency_generator meta/classes-global/package_rpm.bbclass 696: cmd = cmd + " --define '_use_internal_dependency_generator 0'" bump to 6.0. We probably should NOT update to rpm6 for this LTS release given that there is only 6 weeks of development time left before oe-core code freeze.
rpm6 has not merged to master yet. Bump to 6.1.
