I've tested Tom's fix and it is on the yocto list pending inclusion.

I also tested video acceleration with big_buck_bunny_1080p_h264.mov. The poky commit used was 4648aadfe161d2e0ec51408f35fdf8996727bd22
I verified these fixes.
