When building an image with OE-core, the following messages appeared in syslog, suggesting that new accounts have been created at the host running bitbake: Feb 21 21:10:11 xxx groupadd[14819]: group added to /etc/group: name=netdev, GID=999 Feb 21 21:10:11 xxx groupadd[14819]: new group: name=netdev, GID=999 Feb 21 21:10:11 xxx useradd[15092]: new group: name=messagebus, GID=998 Feb 21 21:10:11 xxx useradd[15092]: new user: name=messagebus, UID=999, GID=998, home=/var/lib/dbus, shell=/bin/false Feb 21 22:00:34 xxx useradd[4433]: new group: name=avahi, GID=997 Feb 21 22:00:34 xxx useradd[4433]: new user: name=avahi, UID=998, GID=997, home=/var/run/avahi-daemon, shell=/bin/false Although these accounts are in fact only created inside a sysroot, I think it's rather scary to find such messages in the log.
Fixed in oe-core and poky master as of: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=c54831fa897b43944d53db5e6b898e1c828fd582
