After Scott's content review, we have agreed on the following base image descriptions: 1. For core-image-base: A console-only image that fully supports the target device hardware 2. For core-image-basic: A foundational basic image without support for X that can be reasonably used for customization 3. For core-image-clutter: An image with support for the Open GL-based toolkit Clutter, which enables development of rich and animated graphical user interfaces 4. For core-image-core: An X11 image with simple applications such as terminal, editor, and file manager 5. For core-image-lsb: A foundational basic image without support for X that can be reasonably used for customization and is suitable for implementations that conform to Linux Standard Base (LSB) 6. For core-image-lsb-dev: Basic image without X support suitable for development work. It can be used for customization and implementations that conform to Linux Standard Base (LSB) 7. For core-image-lsb-sdk: Basic image without X support suitable for Linux Standard Base (LSB) implementations. It includes the full meta-toolchain, plus development headers and libraries to form a standalone SDK 8. For core-image-minimal: A small image just capable of allowing a device to boot 9. For core-image-minimal-dev: A small image just capable of allowing a device to boot and is suitable for development work 10. For core-image-minimal-intramfs: Small image capable of booting a device. The kernel includes the Minimal RAM-based Initial Root Filesystem (initramfs), which finds the first “init” program more efficiently 11. For core-image-minimal-mtdutils: Small image capable of booting a device with support for the Minimal MTD Utilities, which let the user interact with the MTD subsystem in the kernel to perform operations on flash devices 12. For core-image-rt: A small image just capable of allowing a device to boot plus a real-time test suite and tools appropriate for real-time use 13. For core-image-rt-sdk: Small image capable of booting a device with a test suite and tools for real-time use. It includes the full meta-toolchain, development headers and libraries to form a standalone SDK 14. For core-image-sato: Image with Sato, a mobile environment and visual style for mobile devices. The image supports X11 with a Sato theme, Pimlico applications, and contains terminal, editor, and file manager 15. For core-image-sato-dev: Image with Sato for development work. It includes everything within core-image-sato plus a native toolchain, application development and testing libraries, profiling and debug symbols 16. For core-image-sato-sdk: Image with Sato support that includes everything within core-image-sato plus meta-toolchain, development headers and libraries to form a standalone SD 17. For qt4e-demo-image: Version 1.0-r1 of the qtr3-demo-image 18. For self-hosted-image: Version 1.0-r6 of the self-hosted image

A few things that need changing: 1. The core-image-rt description is incorrect. It says: "A small image just capable of allowing a device to boot". It should say: "A small image just capable of allowing a device to boot plus a real-time test suite and tools appropriate for real-time use" 2. The core-image-rt-sdk description is incorrect. It says: "A small image just capable of allowing a device to boot". It should say: "Small image capable of booting a device with a test suite and tools for real-time use. It includes the full meta-toolchain, development headers and libraries to form a standalone SDK" 3. There is a typo in the description of core-image-sato-sdk (my fault, sorry). It says: "... to form a standalone SD". It should say: "... to form a standalone SDK" 4. We are missing a description for "Create your own image". I've suggested to Scott: "Use the 'View recipes' and 'View packages' options to select what you want to include in your image". Scott, would you be happy with this text? I've also realised that the line length seems to change between descriptions. Do we know why that is? Belen
> 1. The core-image-rt description is incorrect. It says: "A small image just > capable of allowing a device to boot". It should say: "A small image just > capable of allowing a device to boot plus a real-time test suite and tools > appropriate for real-time use" The require of core-image-minimal overrides the description. Best fix for this would be conditional setting of DESCRIPTION in the required images for all image descriptions, but that opens a can of worms. Moving the require fixes this. > 2. The core-image-rt-sdk description is incorrect. It says: "A small image > just capable of allowing a device to boot". It should say: "Small image > capable of booting a device with a test suite and tools for real-time use. It > includes the full meta-toolchain, development headers and libraries to form a > standalone SDK" ditto. Patch sent. > 4. We are missing a description for "Create your own image". I've suggested to > Scott: "Use the 'View recipes' and 'View packages' options to select what you want to include in your image". Scott, would you be happy with this text? bitbake fix. I'll have a patch out in a bit.
This fixes the "Create your own image" http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit.cgi/poky-contrib/log/?h=eflanagan/bb_default_image Sent to bb-devel This fixes everything else: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky-contrib/log/?h=eflanagan/image_desc Sent to oe-core and pulled As for line length, I'm not sure. I would open another bug for that one. I don't think it's due to DESCRIPTION values as that shouldn't effect line wrap.
