Description Scott Rifenbark 2012-07-06 16:23:28 UTC
BSPs that reside in the meta-intel layer have a 10-day timer function that is enabled by default. This means if a user downloads the image and boots it on target hardware without a rebuild the target hardware will run for 10 days and then automatically reboot. Each README file for these BSPs should have this documented.

This only applies to the images built by the autobuilder. As such, the autobuilder build infrastructure should add a README or append the existing one with a note to that affect. It doesn't normally belong in the README.

From an end-user's point of view though wouldn't I want to see this as part of the README for the BSP I am about ready to download? I don't know the specifics of how it would be implemented but it seems like the user should be alerted to this as close as possible to the actual BSP.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying - the tarball should contain the info if it contains images generated by the autobuilder, but if the tarball doesn't contain images or if the user just checks out from the repo, it shouldn't contain that info. It's conditional on the what the autobuilder generates, and the autobuilder knows what it's generating, so should contain the logic for conditionally including it or not.

What appears on the website is orthogonal to this.

Tom,

I understand now. So the bug is really a little bit different then. It should be against the autobuilder and it should somehow create or insert a warning into the README if needed. Who knows how this can be filed. I don't. What is the right course of action here? Somehow cancel or kill this bug since i have filed it against the BSPs, which is likely not the way to do it. Should a new bug be opened?

BTW - I can handle the webpage notes for the affected BSPs, which are indeed orthogonal.

I'm going to do this manually for the meta-intel release, and put this into the AB during the 1.4 timeframe.
