Description Alexandru Georgescu 2012-07-25 11:49:20 UTC
There is a warning displayed when using bitbake saying that makeinfo is not installed in Ubuntu

SYSTEM USED:
Ubuntu 12.04 64bit.

STEPS:
1. when using bitbake (e.g. bitbake core-image-minimal) a warning is displayed:
WARNING: `makeinfo' is missing on your system. You should only need it if
you modified a `.texi' or `.texinfo' file, or any other file
indirectly affecting the aspect of the manual. The spurious
call might also be the consequence of using a buggy `make' (AIX,
DU, IRIX). You might want to install the `Texinfo' package or
the `GNU make' package. Grab either from any GNU archive site.

The warning appears even if makeinfo is available:
alex@alex-pc:~$ which makeinfo
/usr/bin/makeinfo

The package that has to be installed is texinfo:

There isn't enough information here to debug this. Is the warning coming from bitbake or one of the tasks bitbake is executing? Which task is the error coming from? Which revision of poky was this reproduced with? The full console output from bitbake (or cooker.log) would go a long way to help provide needed information.

On Ubuntu 12.04 64bit host, try using poky master newest:
62d42fe3cfa575cb97b484ccf7b2e9a25cc50770

when build qemuppc minimal image using "bitbake core-image-minimal",the "`makeinfo' is missing" warning not found in the cooker.log in the build dir.

"makeinfo" exists in the Ubuntu 12.04 64bit host:

liangli@liangli-OptiPlex-745:~/test_build_1$ which makeinfo
/usr/bin/makeinfo

Please can someone attach a cooker.log showing this.

Somehow we need to figure out which recipe is generating this warning. The cooker logs don't capture this output unfortunately. Does anyone know which recipe this comes from?
Comment 6 Richard Purdie 2012-08-17 14:02:22 UTC
Could you run a build showing this with a command like:

bitbake core-image-minimal 2>&1 | tee somefile

and then share somefile. That should have more context in it to help narrow down where this is coming from.
Comment 7 liang li 2012-08-20 03:07:43 UTC
run "bitbake core-image-minimal 2>&1 | tee console.log" to build qemuppc minimal image on following:
git info:e781fb625001a485d9a1e1a24850bb6fe4bf5bb5
git branch:poky/master

still no such warning and I start to build it from an empty build dir.

Comment 9 Richard Purdie 2012-08-22 19:21:31 UTC
No mention of makeinfo in the logs though. What we need is a log showing which task generated the error (or even a list of which tasks were running at the time so we can narrow it down).
Comment 10 Richard Purdie 2012-08-22 19:21:51 UTC
Marking as low since this doesn't impact builds, its just annoying.
Comment 11 Richard Purdie 2012-10-09 09:57:51 UTC
Any updates on this issue? Are people still seeing it?
Comment 12 Alexandru Georgescu 2012-10-09 11:10:54 UTC
Hi Richard

I don't see the warning anymore.
Comment 13 Richard Purdie 2012-10-09 12:55:45 UTC
I tried builds on an Ubuntu 12.04 64bit system and have been unable to reproduce this, I'm closing the bug as unable to reproduce, please reopen if we find a way to reproduce it.

Okay, I'm setting it to verified.
