Description Paul Eggleton 2012-10-29 17:10:35 UTC
Ensure that smart can support the hint flags on dependencies between RPM packages that indicates that the relationship is a recommendation (RRECOMMENDS as opposed to RDEPENDS).

Implementation now merged to master:

This is not working as intended:

1) Adding "gzip" to RRECOMMENDS_${PN} meta/recipes-core/packagegroups/packagegroup-core-boot.bb adds gzip to a core-image-minimal but adding "gzippp" will result in an error:

ERROR: Nothing RPROVIDES 'gzippp' (but /home/cornel/SSD/poky/meta/recipes-core/packagegroups/packagegroup-core-boot.bb RDEPENDS on or otherwise requires it)

If I am correct, this should generate a warning, not an error.

2) Setting RDEPENDS_udev += " gzip" in local.conf adds gzip to a core-image-minimal but setting RRECOMMENDS_udev += " gzip" does not work.

Comment 3 Paul Eggleton 2013-02-08 13:34:36 UTC
No, invalid package names as RRECOMMENDS are not allowed - there has to be something that RPROVIDES the recommend value even if it doesn't actually end up being satisfied at runtime; this has always been the case and has nothing to do with Smart.

Also, I don't think you should expect to be able to meaningfully set R* variables from local.conf. Please do your testing within the recipe itself.
Comment 4 Stoicescu Cornel 2013-02-08 14:39:28 UTC
Considering the error is not smart related and that RRECOMMENDS should not be used from local.conf, this bug is verified.

I will investigate and open a new bug for the error if it's needed.
