The following two statements end up with different results when used in bitbake. RDEPENDS += "xserver-xorg-module-exa xserver-xorg-module-xaa" RDEPENDS+="xserver-xorg-module-exa xserver-xorg-module-xaa" The first gets the following in a bitbake -e #RDEPENDS=" xserver-xorg-module-exa xserver-xorg-module-xaa" RDEPENDS=xserver-xorg-module-exa xserver-xorg-module-xaa The second gets #RDEPENDS="" Since there is nothing in the manual indicating the preceeding whitespace is mandatory, and the -e output doesn't show it, there is a problem with consistency at least. If it isn't intended to be required, then a regression has occured as at least with += lack of the space causes the setting to not be used.
Found the problem and fixed in master: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=83e101568434a099c8d9a3e626c3a37589c3a233 RDEPENDS+="x" was assigning to the variable RDEPENDS+
