Current hob UX is implemented in English only. There is increasing demand from China embedded developers for Simplify Chinese support. With the local language, it will speed up their learning and adopting Yocto Project.
I've had a chat with Terence and with the Hob developers. There are a few things to consider: * There are 2 streams of work in this bug. One involves making the necessary changes in Hob's code to enable localisation support. The other one is the translation of the strings. * Localisation also requires significant testing effort * We can guarantee the localisation of the interface strings, but not of error messages coming from BitBake, or the recipes information (summaries, descriptions, etc). So, effectively, we would have a half-translated application. * If it is not possible to hire a translation service, we will need to rely on the community to provide translations. This means hosting some kind of online tool to collect them. We agree that this is probably important, but it requires significant effort.
Hi Terence, Probably this is something that you need to find resource and funding to address but we're willing to help providing consulting. Thanks, Jessica
Does current hob desiged with multiple language support? or it is hard coded with those text? Do we have the string table that I might look for a agency to work on different language string?
Hi Terence, We don't have multiple language support in Hob right now. We would need the dev team to work on that. No string table either, although it shouldn't take long to create it. Bear in mind that BitBake is not localised, so all logs, BitBake messages and information coming from recipe files will still display in English even if we localise the Hob interface.
(In reply to comment #4) Per feedback from many events that Hob is a good tool and a starting point that beginer could test, create and run their first build image. Understood that the receipe file is still display in English. With local lanuage description, it will be easier for the entery people to understand more about the YP features and value. > No string table either, although it shouldn't take long to create it. At this point, work will take place on toaster, not hob, so marking as won't fix.
