I followed the Quick Start guide to build yocto 1.4 - poky 9.0.0 on a fresh openSUSE 12.3 machine. I executed the required packages mentioned in the quick start guide: sudo zypper install python gcc gcc-c++ git chrpath make wget python-xml \ diffstat texinfo python-curses libSDL-devel xterm The bitbake command failed because the "patch" command was missing. After 'zypper install patch' the bitbake command continued fine. So I think that "patch" should be added to the essential packages needed to build on openSUSE.
A little grepping shows that the following patch for documentation/poky.ent should probably fix it: -- poky.ent.org 2013-05-09 00:23:50.707625061 +0200 +++ poky.ent 2013-05-09 00:24:11.560625557 +0200 @@ -56,6 +56,6 @@ diffutils diffstat git cpp gcc gcc-c++ eglibc-devel texinfo chrpath \ ccache"> <!ENTITY OPENSUSE_HOST_PACKAGES_ESSENTIAL "python gcc gcc-c++ git chrpath make wget python-xml \ - diffstat texinfo python-curses"> + diffstat texinfo python-curses patch"> <!ENTITY CENTOS_HOST_PACKAGES_ESSENTIAL "gawk make wget tar bzip2 gzip python unzip perl patch \ diffutils diffstat git cpp gcc gcc-c++ glibc-devel texinfo chrpath">
I have updated the variable OPENSUSE_HOST_PACKAGES_ESSENTIAL that is used in the poky.ent file to hold the string that lists the essential packages need for OpenSUSE so that it now contains "patch". You can see the change where it effects both the YP Reference Manual and the YP Quick Start here: * http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.5/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#opensuse-packages * http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.5/yocto-project-qs/yocto-project-qs.html#opensuse The version for the bug as filed indicated version 1.6. I am unclear as to what version it was found for as we have just released 1.4. I would like to know if this change should also be applied to the dylan branch for the upcoming 1.4.1 release. The fix I have applied to the documentation so far is only for YP 1.5. Scott
Yes, please apply this one for 1.4.1 as well.
I cherry-picked the commit from the master branch into the dylan branch to apply this change to dylan. You can see the change where it effects both the YP Reference Manual and the YP Quick Start here: * http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.4.1/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#opensuse-packages * http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.4.1/yocto-project-qs/yocto-project-qs.html#opensuse This bug is resolved for both 1.5 and 1.4.1.
