Description Ross Burton 2013-06-24 16:01:14 UTC
My NUC is hooked up to a USB touchscreen, but the kernel doesn't have drivers for this hardware.

For the generic USB touchscreen driver, I needed this options:
CONFIG_INPUT_TOUCHSCREEN=y
CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_USB_COMPOSITE=y

(iirc, C_I_T is a group, USB_COMPOSITE is the driver itself)

Can these please be added to the meta-intel BSPs? I guess setting the driver as a module not builtin makes sense.

For what it's worth, this effectively blocks #4416.

OK, I can add a couple new kernel features:

features/input/touchscreen
features/usb/touchscreen-composite

features/usb/touchscreen-composite would 'include features/input/touchscreen' and all you'd need to do would be to include features/usb/touchscreen-composite in your bsp config i.e.

include features/input/touchscreen-composite

I can create those features, add them to the nuc bsp kernel metadata and build-test to make sure they make it into the final config, but can't run-test since I don't have touchscreen hardware to test with.

Let me know if that sounds ok and I'll get started on it..

Sounds good. As it's not NUC-specific, could we add it to all of the non-server BSPs?
Comment 4 Tom Zanussi 2013-06-24 17:21:09 UTC
Yeah, I guess if the idea is to be able to plug the USB touchscreen into any meta-intel BSP and just have it work, it would make sense to add it to them all. Adding it to common-pc, common-pc-64 and the individual atom BSPs like crownbay/fri2/emenlow/sys940x that don't inherit from those should cover everything. I won't touch the minnow unless Darren wants me to.
Comment 5 Darren Hart 2013-06-24 18:34:37 UTC
Agreed with Tom's approach. Tom, please feel free to add it to the minnow BSP as well.

Features added to linux-yocto-3.8 and BSPs updated:

Ross, can you please Verify this? We doj't have an USB touchscreen to test this.

Verified on my NUC with a HDMI touchscreen.
