Description Carlos Rafael Giani 2013-09-14 13:58:46 UTC
Back in March, I built a rootfs with meta-fsl-arm danny branch. It had working sound out-of-the-box.

Using the current master status, I saw many positive changes, but sound is no longer working. I do not see any ALSA devices listed. aplay -l does not show anything. In the kernel configuration, a few iMX6 audio devices were disabled, but even enabling them did not help.

I am using a DL Sabre SD board.
Comment 1 Carlos Rafael Giani 2013-09-14 14:00:28 UTC
Forgot the kernel version: 3.0.35-4.0.0+yocto+g3383d80
(linux-imx from the meta-fsl-layer was used)
Comment 2 Otavio Salvador 2013-09-14 14:24:58 UTC
Did you check if sdma firmware is properly installed?
Comment 3 Carlos Rafael Giani 2013-09-14 14:27:17 UTC
(In reply to comment #2)
> Did you check if sdma firmware is properly installed?

I didn't even know that I need one, just for audio?
Anyway, I do not see anything sdma related in /lib/firmware .
Comment 4 Carlos Rafael Giani 2013-09-14 14:33:38 UTC
Okay, just checked. Even though there are sdma firmware blobs in the firmware package, these are not meant to be used with the imx6. I also do not recall seeing firmware for imx6 audio with the danny branch.

dmesg output

This is the dmesg output of a build with the patches from http://patchwork.openembedded.org/patch/57583/ applied and the commit 87fae6e7d89567772e4919a2dc88c8fc50b2c9d8 in meta-fsl-arm reverted.
Comment 6 Fabio Estevam 2013-09-16 19:49:47 UTC
I have just generated a core-image-minimal image and I can see that audio related drivers are correctly probed:

Can you give me that minimal-image so we can try it out on our machine? Maybe it is a hardware defect.
Comment 8 Fabio Estevam 2013-09-26 16:26:41 UTC
So I just did a ./repo sync and generated an image for mx6qsabresd (last time I used a dual-lite).

Again, no issue in alsa.

Please see the log. I don't have a way to send you the 25MB image, but you should be able to generate it yourself using the latest master.

hardware. Audio worked there. On the board I was using before, no audio.
The issue can be closed.

Thanks,
