When using svn client version 1.8 to check out a working copy of poky, bitbake meta-toolchain-qte will fail with:

ERROR: Failure expanding variable METADATA_REVISION, expression was ${@base_detect_revision(d)} which triggered exception IndexError: list index out of range

Seems like base_get_metadata_svn_revision is expecting .svn/entries to be at least 3 lines long, which is not the case for svn v1.8 (and probably 1.6 and 1.7).

As a workaround, the working copy can be exported, or checked out with an older svn client version.
Comment 2 Richard Purdie 2013-11-22 15:08:18 UTC
I don't know how we get the version correctly in modern subversion, nor am I particularly keen to figure it out. I've sent out a patch to stop the crashes though.
Comment 3 Richard Purdie 2013-11-25 14:58:33 UTC
The crash is resolved with http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=b62bdbd135d3c2cf02b62d68e46b76a5ccda3331

If you want the versioning to work with newer suversions, please send a patch for it. We're happy to improve it, equally I don't anyone using subversion for this so it makes it hard to find anyone to fix it.
