Only files without spaces gets into ext-images. Squashfs and tar.bz2-images contains the files.

Can you provide more details, how are you installing the files?  Do you have an example recipe package?

Looking at the patch, it's very likely this was a regression introduced in 1.5.

I think not. That particular file has never been changed since creating.
