Description Sona 2013-10-30 12:58:31 UTC
Building for x86 requires zlib-devel package. The doc doesn't mention this !

| configure: error: zlib not found
| ./configure: line 5315: exit: cannot: numeric argument required
| ./configure: line 5315: exit: cannot: numeric argument required
| make: *** No rule to make target `MCONFIG', needed by `config.h'. Stop.

Installing zlib-devl package solved this build error.

Hi,

I need a bit more information on this. What Linux distribution was being run? Ulitimately, I will need to know if this affects any of the other supported distributions. That is why I copied Paul Eggleton on the bug.

Thanks,
scott
Comment 2 Paul Eggleton 2013-10-30 13:25:54 UTC
Yes, we need details on exactly what is being built here and which item is failing to build.
Comment 3 Sona 2013-10-31 06:52:14 UTC
Sorry, I forget to mention this. It is on Fedora release 19.

I started installing the required packages mentioned as below in the yocto documentation. I could build images for EVMK2H (Keystone) but got error when building for romley-ivb.

http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/current/mega-manual/mega-manual.html

1.3.2.2. Fedora Packages

The following list shows the required packages by function given a supported Fedora Linux distribution:

    Essentials: Packages needed to build an image for a headless system:

         $ sudo yum install gawk make wget tar bzip2 gzip python unzip perl patch
         diffutils diffstat git cpp gcc gcc-c++ glibc-devel texinfo chrpath \
         ccache perl-Data-Dumper perl-Text-ParseWords

I hope this help, let me know if you need additional info.

I'm still missing where this error is coming up specifically...?
Comment 5 Sona 2013-10-31 16:03:06 UTC
bitbake minimal image. Please let me run this tomorrow and send you the complete output.
Comment 6 Sona 2013-11-04 06:43:56 UTC
I tried this from a clean installation, installed required packages and run bitbake core-image with following configuration. I couldn't reproduce this problem. (First time I tried with another DISTRO).

source oe-init-build-env build-romely

Build Configuration:
BB_VERSION        = "1.20.0"
BUILD_SYS         = "x86_64-linux"
NATIVELSBSTRING   = "Fedora-19"
TARGET_SYS        = "x86_64-poky-linux"
MACHINE           = "romley-ivb"
DISTRO            = "poky"
DISTRO_VERSION    = "1.5"
TUNE_FEATURES     = "m64"
TARGET_FPU        = ""

 bitbake core-image-minimal

Please close this bug.

So no doc changes necessary. I don't know how to CLOSE a bug. My status menu does not offer that option.

Thanks
Scott

I'd still like to know which recipe failed to build before closing this, since that doesn't seem to have been stated anywhere - Sona, could you please let me know?

Created attachment 1604 [details]
log file

Please see the attached log file from "bitbake enea-image-demo" for romley-ivb MACHINE.

Hope this will help.
Comment 10 Paul Eggleton 2013-11-05 10:17:41 UTC
Ah, now I can see where the problem lies - an undeclared dependency from zisofs-tools-native on zlib-native. This can be resolved entirely within the build system, no host/doc changes required.

I have send a patch for this, thanks.
Comment 11 Paul Eggleton 2013-11-06 10:35:19 UTC
Fix merged to master:

http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=ec57d68e8e97a78a2944b4002d530070aff6130b

This should be backported to dora as well. Robert, could you please take care of that?
Comment 12 Sona 2013-11-07 12:44:56 UTC
Thanks, it would be good to have the fix in dora as well :)

The fix is now in the dora branch as well:

http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?h=dora&id=28cd3e8fb5b2ff2659e5279723b1564cd10f9c71

Marking as resolved.
