Description David Lerner 2013-11-02 19:36:09 UTC
commit ad74249895f882a8f00bdeef7a0f7c18998cc43e
eclipse version: kepler
host: ubuntu 12.04

Steps to reproduce:
Built as described in...
    http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.5/dev-manual/dev-manual.html#adt-eclipse
4.2.2.1.3.2. Installing the Plug-in Using the Latest Source Code

Target: External HW
Yocto Project ADT Preferences
    first try - empty
second try - Build System Derived TC
Fields set and correct target arch automatically selected
        External HW checked

RSE:
Create an SSH connection to the external target referenced in the
    System Tap dialog below.

System Tap Dialog field values:
    metadata location: (directory containing oe-init-build-env)
    remote user: root
remote host: ip addr external target 128.224.65.42
systemtap script: stp file from system tap examples

                                                              1,1 Top
Failure: After hitting OK, the password dialog pops up with prompt "Password for root@LOCALHOST". After entering the password for root on the target, the connection opens the wrong target, opening a terminal view as root but on the LOCALHOST target, not the external target.

Expected: Dialog should say "Password for root@128.224.65.42". Connection should be made to IP address specified in "remote host" field, not LOCALHOST.

Second Failure: If I change the field 'remote user:' from root to my local host user name, but still use the external target ip address, the password prompt still shows the wrong target address and then also the wrong user id: "Password for root@localhost" and the "User name:" field while not shaded is not writable, showing the locked value "root" even though I specified a different remote user name.

Hi David,
Can you check if it's the same issue as the one here? https://bugzilla.yoctoproject.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5085

Hi Alex,

My use case was running the eclipse system tap from my host to a remote Wind River Linux target, not to a remote qemu session running on another host.

I don't think that this is precisely the same scenario, but my scenario should be the more common use case, running system tap on a real target.

Hi David,

so are you login to your local system as root? you said it asked the password for root@LOCALHOST, which is correct since systemtap plugin is going to open a local terminal then from there run the cross systemtap script that's going to connect to the remote target. So for my case, I'll see the prompt for jzhang@LOCALHOST and I have to type my password for local machine

Also, you mentioned that for meta data you put the directory of yocto metadata, but have you built any image with that directory and also is your remote target running the image that built with that meta data? please read the Yocto project tracing manual which the eclipse plug-in is only the frontend for calling the cross tap script, and there're setup considerations for cross tap script to be able to run.

Hi,
I am marking this as invalid. Please refer to https://bugzilla.yoctoproject.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5085 for the same issue.

David, first when you use the systemtap you will need to enter the remote host ip address and passwd, (e.g. for qemu you will use user "root" and no passwd).
Pressing ok, then you will be asked to enter your localhost (or 127.0.0.1) user and passwd. The tool asks for the host credentials in order to run the crosstap script which is on the local machine. This is more like an usability bug or enhancement.
