The development manual section on multilib points users to a separate wiki page for further information. The multilib feature is now well established and we shouldn't need to be pointing to an unmaintained wiki page to document it fully. Any useful material from this wiki page should be rolled into this section, and then we can replace the wiki page content with a link to the section.
Paul, I looked over the wiki and compared it to the section in the manual and I think it is up to date. However, not being real familiar with it all it might be good for you to have a look at the two. http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.6/dev-manual/dev-manual.html#combining-multiple-versions-library-files-into-one-image https://wiki.yoctoproject.org/wiki/Multilib Thanks, Scott
Enhancement - moving to 1.7
Paul, Even though you own this bug now I am marking it to IN PROGRESS REVIEW. That is what is really needed here. You need to review the latest section on Multilib as compared to the wiki page and then comment. Here are the links: http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.7/dev-manual/dev-manual.html#combining-multiple-versions-library-files-into-one-image https://wiki.yoctoproject.org/wiki/Multilib Thanks, Scott
Still need a review on this. Scott
Sorry, it took me a ridiculous amount of time to get back to this one! I've finally looked at this and I think we are covering everything except for two non-package-manager-specific implementation details noted lower down in the excerpt from one of Richard's emails. Can we add the following: --------- snip --------- * The class extension code as used by multilib assumes that all package names specified in PACKAGES that contain ${PN} have ${PN} at the start of the name. That is the typical convention in any case, but if ${PN} appears at the middle or the end of a name then it will cause problems. * The TARGET_VENDOR value under multilib will be extended to "-<vendor>ml<multilib>" - for example "-pokymllib32" for a "lib32" multilib with Poky. The reason for this slightly unwieldy contraction is that that any "-" characters in the vendor string will break Autoconf's config.sub at present, and other separators are problematic for different reasons. --------- snip --------- Once we've done this can you also drop the link to the wiki page, and then I can convert the wiki page to a link back to the manual section.
Paul, I added these two items in the section at the end (http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.1/dev-manual/dev-manual.html#additional-implementation-details). I also dropped the reference to the wiki page in the beginning. If you think this is good I will close the bug. Scott
Thanks Scott, I've now replaced the page content with a link to the section. Finally we can call this one done :)
