Description Dave Stewart 2010-12-01 11:47:44 UTC
Comments from Jon Masters today - we should have a specific glossary of terms on yoctoproject.org. Some examples I have included may actually change as we get more input on them. Examples of the things it should include:

Yocto Project
Poky Build System
Yocto Kernel
Yocto Metadata Layers
Swabber
Pseudo
Cross Prelink
Build profiles
Custom Yocto Images
SDK (which as of today we're calling "App Dev Tools for the device"

Where on the website would we have a glossary? My suggestion would be under the 'Documentation' tab.

I am not sure I agree with having a glossary on the website. The YP dev manual has YP terms defined in it. We could point the web person to the documentation. But, if we really want one then we can create one later. I have marked this bug as an enhancement for now.

Hi,
Is there any update regarding the glossary?

Thanks,
Alex.

Jeff,

The last mail I saw on this issue was a reply by you stating that the new website would plan to focus on defining some terms. Is that still true? Also, we do have a Terms section in the YP Development Manual that could be leveraged and/or updated to be in line with what comes out of the new website.

Right now this bug has me as the "Assigned To" person. We might consider changing it to you since you are the force behind the new website. I can work with you to be sure all terms are sync'ed between the website and the documentation.

Scott

Hi Scott - yes, I do have plans for this, although the website is moving more slowly than anticipated. Let's plan to look over the existing glossary (in the docs, yes?) this week and decide whether it is sufficient.

thanks

Sounds good. Here is the link to the latest section for Terms:

I can add/change/delete as we go.

Putting this back on my radar

Scott & Dave - We have a terms glossary in the docs. Does anything else need to be done with this?
Comment 9 Jeff Osier-Mixon 2013-03-20 19:56:58 UTC
This is now available on the website (and has been for a while). Closing.
