I've had to help a number of users on IRC/the mailing lists who get confused by the fact that adding e.g. gst-plugins-good to IMAGE_INSTALL doesn't actually install anything - instead they have to add gst-plugins-good-meta and then they will get all of the plugins that have been built in their image. There's nothing to help the user realise this nor is this convention used outside of the gst-plugins-* recipes as far as I am aware. Unless there is a really good reason not to do so, I suspect the simplest solution would be to make the main package do what the -meta package does now (or alternatively for backwards compatibility make the main package depend on the -meta package).
I've had this thought before, agreed.
Investigation started.
Issue needs to be fixed on 1.7 also.
Had the same issue with even gstreamer1.0-plugins-good. Even with installing gstreamer1.0-plugins-good-meta, there are still missing plugins (qtdemux for example)
Does a package for the qtdemux plugin actually get produced? Perhaps the lack of qtdemux is simply because that plugin isn't being built at all - you can check the do_configure log to confirm.
isomp4 wasn't built so it probably explains why qtdemux isn't there. Probably a false negative
Patch sent in for review.
Fixed with commit: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=34221ef141e9a8b4e9d3e0687563d691bcd9f225
