It is currently a hidden game, but seems to be necessary for optimizing the ICECC distributed builds.
Good to add. Can you provide a recommended blurb you'd like to see in the variable glossary?
I would replicate the PARALLEL_MAKE variable to a certain extent with additional ICECC related notes. For instance, it is not possible to autodetect it like PARALLEL_MAKE in master if I understood correctly. It needs to be set to the estimated participating core numbers * 2 in the network. That is my understanding at least. I do not feel qualified enough to tell more about it comfortably. It is better to ask someone more experienced.
Just so we are clear, that is for the best performance like with the PARALLEL_MAKE option. One can set it to less to utilize less core for sure. The main difference between PARALLEL_MAKE and ICECC_PARALLEL_MAKE is that the former specifies it for local builds, hence local computer. The latter specifies for all the enabled [*] machines on the network. [*] running the iceccd daemon so that participating to the distributed builds.
Perfect, thanks. We need to give some direction to start off the documentation process. This should be sufficient to get it started.
This is good information to start with. I will get a first draft of it in today for review. Scott
Hi, Please look at http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.6/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#var-ICECC_PARALLEL_MAKE for the first draft of this variable. I made some assumptions to create the description. Thanks, Scott
It looks OK to me, thanks.
Thanks for the quick review Laszlo. I am marking this RESOLVED and the Doc flag as "done". Scott
