Poky commit 14471d201b40820f535226f99159b3a7a85df0cd broke the source archiver for native packages and was committed on December 20th.  Obviously nobody is using master and the source archiver (which is understandable) but we're also not testing it (which isn't).

Currently we have the following two testcases that cover the source archiver functionality:

Indeed, the behavior is faulty.
We already have two bugs open on this, as results of the two testcases that I've mentioned in my other comment:
