If you're attempting to build an image which isn't meant to be a rootfs (such as an image for a secondary partition), at the moment you get a bunch of superfluous files in the image. Here's what I get with an image where (for testing purposes) IMAGE_INSTALL is set to "": ├── etc │ ├── default │ │ └── postinst │ ├── ld.so.cache │ ├── rcS.d │ └── version ├── lib │ └── modules │ └── 3.14.4-yocto-standard │ ├── modules.alias │ ├── modules.alias.bin │ ├── modules.builtin.bin │ ├── modules.dep │ ├── modules.dep.bin │ ├── modules.devname │ ├── modules.softdep │ ├── modules.symbols │ └── modules.symbols.bin └── var └── lib └── opkg ld.so.cache can be taken care of by setting LDCONFIGDEPEND = "", however the rest of the files remain.
So with krogoth the picture is as follows - this is building test-empty-image in meta-selftest (with ipk as in the original example): ├── etc │ ├── default │ │ └── postinst │ ├── ld.so.cache │ ├── timestamp │ └── version ├── run └── var ├── cache │ ├── ldconfig │ │ └── aux-cache │ └── opkg └── lib └── opkg Same image with rpm: ├── etc │ ├── default │ │ └── postinst │ ├── ld.so.cache │ ├── rpm │ │ ├── platform │ │ └── sysinfo │ │ └── Dirnames │ ├── timestamp │ └── version └── var └── lib
