Tested on 1.8_M4_RC1: 8b3d3e7c957ad06c390886487f69aeb8e145da6a Steps to reproduce: 1. Create new project. 2. Import meta-selftest layer as follows: Layer name: meta-selftest Git repository URL: git://git.yoctoproject.org/poky Revision: HEAD Click on the button: "Import and add to project" 3. Build core-image-minimal Expected result: Image builds successfully. Observed result: Build fails with the following error: localhostbecontroller: Bitbake server did not start in 5 seconds, aborting (Error: '' 'ERROR: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/dave/poky/bitbake/lib/bb/cookerdata.py", line 175, in wrapped return func(fn, *args) File "/home/dave/poky/bitbake/lib/bb/cookerdata.py", line 185, in parse_config_file return bb.parse.handle(fn, data, include) File "/home/dave/poky/bitbake/lib/bb/parse/__init__.py", line 107, in handle return h['handle'](fn, data, include) File "/home/dave/poky/bitbake/lib/bb/parse/parse_py/ConfHandler.py", line 118, in handle abs_fn = resolve_file(fn, data) File "/home/dave/poky/bitbake/lib/bb/parse/__init__.py", line 130, in resolve_file raise IOError("file %s not found" % fn) IOError: file /home/dave/poky/conf/layer.conf not found ERROR: Unable to parse /home/dave/poky/conf/layer.conf: file /home/dave/poky/conf/layer.conf not found ')
I am not sure about what scenario we have here - but I suspect the imported layer was not correct, and thus the test case was invalid. Specifically, the test sequence for importing layer meta-selftest does not specify the directory path set to "meta-selftest" in accordance with the tree listed here http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/tree/?h=fido so the test data is invalid, and the outcome is the expected one - error while starting the system. Closing as "not a bug" due to invalid test sequence.

Thank you for clarifying the test case. I have made the mentioned addition and the build did indeed complete. Marking as verified.
