Description Cristian Iorga 2015-03-31 16:08:17 UTC
avahi package, as used by oe-core is available via www.avahi.org website.
However, this package is getting older and bug-prone as time passes by.
The latest release is more than 2 years old.

Some avahi bugfixes have been added/implemented to a new repository at:
https://github.com/lathiat/avahi

YP/poky/oe-core should switch to that for the next release.

Trent has now merged every patch we had apart from one touching the init scripts, and he'll be merging the full set of init script updates from Debian shortly (the remaining patch is taken from Debian).

A release is due soon, once all the bitrot is fixed.

Randomly reassigning to Maxin.

We need to talk to Trent and see if he's still interested in maintaining avahi in the future, if he'll make a tarball, and so on. If the github repo is dead already then switching to it is less clear-cut.

Raised a pull request in github to check if the project is alive..

There is no reply for the mail sent to Trent - "lathiat@bur.st" and status of pull request remain open. It will be great if someone could share Trent's latest mail id (if the above one isn't valid anymore).

That should be his current email...

I found him on IRC (#avahi on freenode, note that he's australian) and pestered him:

"i plan to drop the rc from .32 and drop it as is (seems fine) and im working on various new patches for next release atm"

A tarball should be coming soon.

Thanks, That is encouraging. I will start working on that rc release then.

Current status: Waiting for the 0.6.32 release tarball in github.
Comment 9 Ross Burton 2016-02-16 10:08:06 UTC
Trent has released 0.6.32: https://github.com/lathiat/avahi/releases/tag/v0.6.32
