I've found a need, quite regularly, for the path of the top of my build, so e.g. I can quickly copy patches back out of WORKDIR, so I think there'd be value there, unless there's concern about said export breaking manual builds of something. Alternatively, create a temporary symlink in WORKDIR.

New approach: just prefix the variable names and sidestep the issue, and avoid the need for a symlink or such overhead. See https://github.com/MentorEmbedded/meta-mentor/pull/636. Will submit an oe-core rfc patch.
