Description Saul Wold 2015-09-15 18:24:08 UTC
This occurred on OpenSuse 13.1 machine the configure process fails to complete while attempting to determine build system type

checking build system type...
configure: error: invalid value of canonical build

Further checking of the build I was not able to reproduce it in place.
Comment 1 Maxin B. John 2015-09-24 07:31:16 UTC
dpkg-native build doesn't fail in Fedora and Ubuntu machines. Will use Opensuse 13.1 to reproduce it as it seems like an Opensuse specific problem.
Comment 2 Maxin B. John 2015-09-24 14:02:41 UTC
First attempt in Opensuse 13.1 couldn't recreate the build error:

# bitbake dpkg-native

Saul: do you mean you tried this on the autobuilder, and couldn't reproduce even there?
Comment 4 Maxin B. John 2015-10-15 14:50:53 UTC
It will be great to get more info on how to re-create this build error.

Correct, I was not able to reproduce this, I know these heisenbugs are the worst when they are not reproducible.
Comment 6 Jussi Kukkonen 2015-10-22 08:16:23 UTC
I hate reading generated configure but ... this is what it looks like to me (with configure that works and was built on my Debian Unstable)

* we use "--build=x86_64-linux"
* build-aux/config.sub is run with "x86_64-linux" as parameter
* the result is not a proper triplet (does not match "*-*-*"):
        case $ac_cv_build in
        *-*-*) ;;
        *) as_fn_error $? "invalid value of canonical build" "$LINENO" 5;;
        esac

At least my configure even checks that config.sub is there... I have no idea how this could fail as long as config.sub is not ancient, and that shouldn't happen because autotools.bbclass configure updates it.
Comment 7 Maxin B. John 2015-10-22 08:27:46 UTC
Opensuse seems to hit a similar bug in the past (configure fails to set architecture in autobuilder environment)

Comment 8 Maxin B. John 2015-10-27 16:04:57 UTC
Another round of attempt to re-create the build failure were unsuccessful. So, moving it to 2.1
Comment 9 Maxin B. John 2016-02-12 10:36:22 UTC
Another attempt to recreate this error wasn't fruitful. We haven't seen this failure again in AB also.
Comment 10 Mihail Stanciu 2016-02-16 09:50:32 UTC
Verified unable to reproduce.
