QemuRunner fails to start the wic created image during the oe-selftest run. Reason: When qemu boots with a disk (like one generated by wic) the kernel parameters are no longer accepted by qemu. One of these parameters is the IP address that QemuRunner requires. A solution regarding this issue hasn’t been addressed in details, and requires major changes to the mechanism that handles the qemu machines connectivity and correlation to the running tests (oe-selftest).
I've played with Cristian's fix for 8691 https://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky-contrib/log/?h=ciorga/wic-testing and I'm pretty happy about it. It still requires some tweaking to satisfy oe-selftest requirements, but generally it shows right way to go. I'd propose to either assign 8691 to me or wait until I come up with my fixes that would allow to test wic images with oe-selftest. That should help to come up with consolidated patchset that would fix both bugs. Opinions?
Ed: Happy for you to take 8691 FWIW
