My test is based on: Build Configuration: BB_VERSION = "1.29.0" BUILD_SYS = "x86_64-linux" NATIVELSBSTRING = "Ubuntu-14.04" TARGET_SYS = "x86_64-poky-linux" MACHINE = "qemux86-64" DISTRO = "poky" DISTRO_VERSION = "2.0+snapshot-20160309" TUNE_FEATURES = "m64 core2" TARGET_FPU = "" meta meta-poky meta-yocto-bsp = "master:6da6ac1dfe4e10eb932f96f9dfbffdb3125e0843" meta-initramfs meta-oe = "master:73854a05565b30a5ca146ac53959c679b27815aa" Add the following to local.conf: INITRAMFS_IMAGE = "core-image-minimal-initramfs" INITRAMFS_IMAGE_BUNDLE = "1" IMAGE_INSTALL_append = " kernel-image" Run: bitbake core-image-minimal Then I found sometimes I could not install the initramfs bundled kernel image onto rootfs, there is no guarantee, for some builds, I could see it in /boot/, but sometimes it was not there.

Robert, I don't think these patches merged but there were other initramfs changes. Could you see whether these are still needed and/or better explain what the issue is please?
