I find with latest gold build commit, poky-image-basic build will meet do_compile error. Richard and Mark, Can you take a quick look, since Saul is not here these days.
We have a bug that libuser's doc compile failure: Bug 213 - libuser missing the html/txt doc files But they got fixed by scott. CC scott for comments.
This is due to a missing host dependency. Debian-based hosts split up groff into groff-base and groff packages. I bet you have groff-base installed but not groff. That will fix this problem. See bug 857 for how this got resolved recently in our documentation.

Since bug 857 is fixed, I suppose I could mark this bug as fixed also becasue poky-image-basic could pass build after groff installed.
Verify the bug as fixed by following the yocto-project-qs handbook, after installing groff on host.
