It's more efficient to copy only the files required by the bundle, rather than copying the entire mega image and then pruning unwanted files afterwards. Particular in the extreme case of a large mega image with several small bundles.
I have a patch to implement this and am in the process of testing it.
Any update?
(In reply to comment #2) > Any update? I have a partial implementation which results in `swupd verify` failures for directories on the target. I need to pick this work back up some time soon, probably next week.
As part of the work on #9599 I removed most of the places where we copy the mega image rootfs and then prune unwanted contents. I've added a follow on patch to that work which removes the final user of that pattern and the two functions which support it. I expect to merge this some time next week after further testing.
With the rearchitecture of swupd-image.bbclass that just landed in meta-swupd master there are now fewer copies made, the final copy/prune usages were removed in: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/meta-swupd/commit/?id=5e6ef822c20a34b2db72cc626cf442dac97f5bcc
