Description David Cobbley 2016-04-04 22:13:05 UTC
Three key steps missing in Quick Start guide to build for Minnowboard MAX:

1) Before step 1: "Create a local copy of the meta-intel repository", you should indicate to cd ~/poky (or wherever poky has been installed) first

2) Note that when I tried step 2, "Configure the build" the "bitbake-layers" command failed because the bblayers.conf file was not writeable

3) In the step "build the image", before running "bitbake", the user needs to run the command "git checkout jethro" or else you will have poky jethro and meta-intel master - a clear mismatch that causes the bitbake command to fail with missing layers/files.

1 and 3 are definite omissions. As for 2, I'm curious - how did you end up with bblayers.conf not being writeable?
Comment 2 Paul Eggleton 2016-04-04 23:27:09 UTC
(To clarify, by definite omissions I mean they need fixing, not that they were deliberately left out ...)
Comment 3 Scott Rifenbark 2016-04-04 23:42:23 UTC
Hmm... I will step through these steps myself and get them fixed up.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi,

I fixed problem one - added a line to get the user into the poky directory before cloning out meta-intel.

Problem 2 did not happen for me. Although, I did notice that part of the path in the example command included "source". That does not need to be there and it actually caused me an error. That has been removed.

Problem 3 is addressed as part of step 1 now. I explained that you need to be matching the same releases for both poky and meta-intel and provided example lines to move the user to the meta-intel directory and then do the checkout.

You can see these changes at http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.1/yocto-project-qs/yocto-project-qs.html#qs-minnowboard-example.

Let me know if they are okay.

Thanks,
Scott

Not sure what happened on my problem 2, but your changes for problems 1 & 3 look great, thanks!

Thanks for the quick review David. I am setting the status of the bug to RESOLVED and putting the doc flag to "done."

Thanks,
